Virtually any file type can be played by installing third-party QuickTime plug-ins. Any video file that runs smoothly in full screen mode in QuickTime Player should run in PlaybackPro (however - PlaybackPro uses approximately 10 more peak processing and graphics power). For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. PlaybackPro is based on the QuickTime Framework. The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. It automatically adjusts to the output resolution and aspect ratio. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required. PlaybackPro Plus Software/Controller is a multi-channel player that does cuts and dissolves between clips, has variable fade and kill settings, and allows individual control of each clip’s gain, saturation, gamma, volume and black levels. To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. PlaybackPro is based on the QuickTime Framework. The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required and cannot be installed. On OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X. This particular aspect is a bit complicated!Īs you can read on this page: or-mac-os-x PlaybackPro is based on the QuickTime Framework.
